Why Investors of Faith Should Pay Attention to Inflation, Even When It Seems Low

Inflation has dominated headlines over the past few years, and for good reason. Rising prices impact everything from groceries to giving, savings to salaries. But what happens when inflation appears to cool off? Is it time to stop paying attention?
We believe the answer is no. Even in calmer seasons, inflation still plays an important role in long-term stewardship.
What the Numbers Show (And What They May Miss)
In June 2025, the Consumer Price Index (CPI) rose just 0.1%, and gas prices actually fell. That’s encouraging. But when looking at inflation, it’s important to consider:
The cumulative effect of past years’ price increases
Whether wage growth is keeping pace
How specific sectors or age groups are impacted differently
For example, a retiree on a fixed income may feel inflation more acutely than someone still in the workforce. And some faith-driven investors may find that the rising costs of healthcare, charitable giving, or education affect their planning in unique ways.
Faithful Planning Includes Preparing for the Unexpected
Inflation may rise again. Economic events, energy prices, supply chain disruptions, or global conflicts may all contribute to future price shifts. While we cannot predict the exact timing or impact, we may prepare.
That preparation includes:
Building margin into your plan
Maintaining a thoughtful investment strategy
Revisiting charitable goals to keep giving consistently and intentionally
Considering faith-based alternatives to traditional assets that may better align with your values
